the story of our wedding // part 2 {the ring}

the story of our wedding

so i just learned that Wedding Wednesday is a thing. which is fantastic. and also gave me the reminder that i needed to post part two of the story of our wedding. [you can find part one: the engagement here] part two is full of sparkle and selfies; the ring.

the story of our wedding

i couldn’t be happier with my ring. and yes, i did pick it out. [b] and i looked online a little, and i went once with my dear friend lys to try some on once just to get an idea. i truly had no idea what i wanted. ok maybe a little, i wanted sterling silver, and modern vintage, unique without being odd, and classy sassy. it’s hard because the diamond store websites don’t let me select those as filter options. so when [b] was in china last year my momma and i went to jared and after some searching i had narrowed it down to 2 rings, i had one that was the front runner, but i wanted [b] to feel like he got some say. :) (#hewenttojared)

the story of our wedding

now, if you give a girl a ring, she’s going to want to show people. but if you give a social media diva a ring, she’s going to want to take selfies and call them #blingshots. and they’re going to be, wait for it, awesome. it’s exciting and crazy to have a ring on your ring finger and you just might find yourself doing some things you have not done before, suchas: because it’s so shiny you kind of just want to stare at it while it sparkles. and request that others join in. and making sure that when you’re in photos your #blingshot is showing in all its glory. and when you take #bouface selfies you suddenly only can use your left hand to hold your bou in the photo. and your friends may call you out on “accidental” #blingshots, or even request them. being engaged is funny like that.

the story of our wedding

in case you were wondering, which of course you were, it’s 325 days until the wedding! i know, right? so much excitement and many things to share with you on upcoming Wedding Wednesdays [and maybe some other days, too.] toodles!

the story of our wedding // part 1 {the engagement}

the story of our wedding

our story began 1 year, 8 months, and 1 day ago with life changing french toast.{you can read about the beginning of our story here} i spent the spent the next 1 year, 6 months and 2 days writing that story with my boyfriend. and then 2 months and 2 days ago, on the gorgeous island of sint eustatius our story turned another page; my boyfriend became my fiancé. and i became the happiest girl in the world. our story continues here. part 1 – the engagement.

it was the final day of what had been an incredible vacation; a week in the Caribbean with [b] and my family just relaxing and enjoying our time together. it had been wonderful.  had i wondered if perhaps this would be the trip that [b] would pop the question? of course. relaxing vacay; beautiful views; my family was there – i mean jackpot right? but i decided to not think about it. i didn’t want to be hanging on every moment wondering – is this it? but of course, i still wondered maybe… until that morning, swinging in the hammock with he when he said…”so cliche to get engaged in paradise, right?” ((background: my cousin and his wife got engaged in statia years ago and we were chatting about it with my aunt and uncle the night before)) i sarcastically responded, “sure…” and thought to myself, well… not this trip.

my mom, dad, brothers and uncle had gone out snorkeling, my aunt was working at the shop and [b] and i had stayed back. he was camped out inside (he’s not a fan of sun) and  i had set up shop with an ocean view, sunshine, my kindle and a diet coke. it was overcast and [b] came out to chat for a little bit, until that pesky sun came out again. i went back to reading and was in the midst of taking a selfie to snap to my dear tashy, continuing to rub it in that i was on vacay, when he came back out and sat next to me.

we started talking about what a great trip it had been when it started to sprinkle, so we started talking about pina coladas and getting caught in the rain – yes the jimmy Buffett Rupert Holmes song. and [b] was educating me on the fact that the song was actually about a husband and wife that were trying to cheat on each other, but they ended up together so it was cool. romantic, right? then he took my phone to take a picture of us, yes a selfie, which was nothing out of the ordinary. he took a couple pictures and then he shifted (to get down on one knee) and something sparkly caught my eye. and then i heard, “i’m not so good at speeches, will you marry me?” i said yes, immediately and then proceeded to stare at the ring, with no more words, other than repeating yes. was real life? truth be told i have no idea of anything he said after he asked, i was in my own world of happiness realizing that i was going to get to marry my best friend, my rock, my person, and i was going to get to spend the rest of my life continuing to fall for him every day. as my dear friend would say, it was everything i never knew i always wanted.

we got to spend the next little while just the two of us, enjoying the moment, letting it all sink in and realizing that [b] had photographed him asking; so on top of a wonderful moment, we have pictures to remember it even more. we emailed a picture to [b]’s momma and waited until the family got back from snorkeling to tell them. i had these grand ideas about fun ways to tell them, but i pretty much just shoved my hand in their face and said GUESS WHAT!? thankfully [b] was able to capture those moments. that night watching the sunset, toasting with prosecco, i was full of pure joy and happiness. i could not have imagined a more way to start this next chapter of our lives. i simply couldn’t be happier.

celebrations of one year {and the love of french toast}

good morning, friends! i hope you enjoyed reading all about the story of brandon and me. missed it? loved it so much you want to read it again? perfection. you can find it here. we had a great weekend celebrating that we have officially tolerated each other for one whole year, just kidding… but seriously. :) here is how we celebrated the occasion…

cheers to one year

saturday evening we went to spill the wine in uptown for dinner. we have an extensive list of restaurants to go to in our wunderlist and so it’s really exciting when we get to cross one off the list. (not familiar with wunderlist? highly recommend for all my fellow list making fanatics out there. can be used as an app as well as a desktop application. and you can share lists. boom.) brandon had been to spill the wine when it was located it downtown, and i am a fan of any place with wine in the title plus i had just gotten a new little black dress and wanted to have a reason to wear it. it’s a very modern/ trendy place. lots of re-purposed wood and eclectic light fixtures. very fun.

spill the wine

in proper spill the wine fashion, we started the evening off with a bottle of wine. the menu is family style where you order lots of small plates to share . it was really hard to decide because everything looked delectable. we just started picking things from the menu and i’m not ashamed to admit that one of the first things we decided on was cheese curds. our first dishes that came were sweet potato sopes with chicken, salsa verde, crema & cotija; cheddar polenta with spicy lamb sausage, onions & peppers; and gnocchi with roasted chicken, gorgonzola cream, spinach & marsala. i had no idea what about 60% of the items in the sweet potato sopes were; let alone what a sope was (it’s like a flat bread) but whatever it was, it was amazing. the spicy lamb sausage in the polenta was super delish. my favorite of the 3 was hands down the gnocchi. it was the bomb{dot}com. we added hoisen pork belly with stick rice & picked egg; and the cheese curds with truffles. both were super delish, but my number one vote still goes to the gnocchi. since we were celebrating we finished the meal with a piece of flourless chocolate cake. #delish.

spill the wine

it was a wonderfully lovely night spent reminiscing about all that has happened throughout the past year. it’s crazy because it really feels like it’s been more than a year. not only that, but that just over a year ago i didn’t know him at all, and now i couldn’t imagine life without him (and starks) in it. good wine, yummy food, sassy new dress and the love of my life. what’s not great about all of that? nothing.

recreating our first meeting

one year, original pancake house

on sunday, our official anniversary date, all i wanted to do was exactly what we did one year ago on that day. we did ride together, not meet there, but i think that was about the only change. we drove to caribou and got our yummy pumpkin goodness and drove back over to OPH. we had been deliberating all morning about what we were going to order and decided that i would get the infamous caramel banana cinnamon french toast, and brandon would get pumpkin pancakes with pecans and we would share… just a little. my mom even called me to make sure things were going ok. and i didn’t get in any more cars with strangers. :)

football

now that we were officially in food coma, we went back home to lounge around and watch football all day. i couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful weekend spent celebrating one year of love. of finding everything i never knew i always wanted. i simply couldn’t be happier and can’t wait to see what year 2 has in store.

love is a partnership of two unique people who bring out the best in each other and who know that even though they are wonderful as individuals, they are even better together.
